5 festive content ideas to make small business life easier

If you are a small business and don’t employ a social media agency, chances are you are having a little freak out about one of the following 3 things:

  1. It’s Christmas, ‘tis the season you want to move product or boost sales leading into the final month of the year.

  2. You are overwhelmed with stuff to do – especially if you are parent and trying to run a business, it’s damn hard, because the magic of Christmas is hard, HARD, work

  3. You want to have a little ‘screen free’ break and batch your social content so you don’t have to worry about it – but that requires a little forward thought and creativity in advance.

Totally get how all of the above feels. So here’s 5 – not so generic  – content ideas, that can work for both product and service based businesses to help get you started and make life easier this holiday season…

1.       Outline how you make your customer’s life easier during the festive season.

Regardless of how and what you celebrate, the holiday season of December and January is usually a time of stress. Share with your audience, how your brand will be making life easier for your customer. It could be the saving them time with gift giving, helping them stay healthy, relaxed, stay organised or helping their business run efficiently while they want to take a break.

 

2.       Celebrate your community!

Now, this could be your local geographical community, the small business community or even industry community you are part of. Take this opportunity to pay it forward – celebrate and recognise the people that make your business what it is. Staff/team member shoutouts, a super loyal customer shout out, or even a ‘thankyou!’ to that supplier that makes your day easier. Perhaps you want to acknowledge another business that you have spotted that stands out to you and inspires you – ‘Tis the season to be generous and celebrating your community doesn’t have to cost much at all.

 

3.       Sell - but make it stand out with a seasonal festive twist

This is obviously a great time to promote your product but take advantage fo the unique seasonality and customise your product promotion  in accordance with the seasonality. This could be in the visual cues – colours and imagery, copywriting and overall tone which will help your product stand out. It can be subtle or bold. This is your permission to sell – but make it FESTIVE!

 

4.       Give your audience an insight to you as a Founder

What are one of your favourite things about the festive season for you personally. An opportunity to share a little about yourself without having to get too personal. For example, for me, I love the creativity the Summer Holiday season ignites in people. From neighbourhood streets where the Christmas lights twinkle just right, a great tablescape filled with colour to really cool collaborations or experiential pop ups out and about. I love it all and can’t wait to share what I come across this festive season.

 

5.       Share how your brand plans to Surprise and Delight

Will your clients get a little treat this holiday season when they purchase from you? Perhaps you have free shipping, extended hours, gift with purchase, loyalty points, bonus resource or increased access  – don’t assume knowledge, sing it from the rooftops!
